Girl, seven, asks for donations to Beckton hospice rather than birthday presents

A seven-year-old girl asked for charity donations rather than presents for her birthday - and is hoping to inspire her friends to do the same.
Nabeeha Ilhan visited Richard House Children’s Hospice in the summer with her friend Tasmea Ayat, six, who was donating her own birthday money to the charity.
The Monega Primary School pupil was so motivated by the work the Beckton hospice does that she asked friends and relatives to donate cash rather than bring gifts to her party last week.
Dad Ryhan said: “Nabeeha feels she is blessed and fortunate enough with her good health and would rather support local children who need that, than have toys.”
Such is her passion for helping the hospice, she wants to inspire her friends and classmates to do the same when their birthdays come around.
Richard House’s community and events manager Shahz Hussain said: “Nabeeha has shown a maturity far beyond her years and I hope she stands as an example to other children her age.”
