Nearly three quarters of babies born last year in Newham have mothers born outside the UK, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
Figures show that last year, 4,418 of the 5,966 births in the borough were born to non-UK-born mothers, a rate of 74 per cent.
This is one of the highest percentages of births born to non-UK-born mothers across the whole of England and Wales, where the national average is 28.4pc.
Of the estimated 4,418 mothers born outside the UK who gave birth last year in Newham, the most common place of origin was the Middle East and Asia - making up 47.5pc of the group.
Some 26.8pc of the non-UK born mothers were originally born in the EU, 4.6% in European countries outside the EU, and 16.6pc in Africa.
The ONS report said that the figures for non-UK born mothers includes those who moved to the UK as children and have lived there most of their lives, as well as those who have recently migrated.
It also said that the figures for UK-born mothers include the children of second or third generation immigrants.
