Allyson Julien, 25, has been a youth worker at boxing and martial arts charity Fight for Peace for three years.

She leads children aged seven to 17 in a project known as the Twilight Programme in Newham.

These sessions run three days a week, incorporating boxing, fitness, personal development and fun.

“We work closely with young people to address their needs in order to create personal development sessions which are delivered monthly,” she said.

Allyson moved to Beckton as a child and was introduced to the organisation after attending a free open access boxing session. The diversity of Newham makes Allyson feel the organisation is based in the right borough. She said: “We have a lot of different people coming to Fight for Peace. We pride ourselves on being like a family.”

The charity is expanding, with new classrooms and gym space being built, with an aim to reach more young people. She added: “At Fight for Peace, we help young people to realise their potential. Participating in martial arts requires a lot of self-discipline and this is something we also need in life.”
