Employees at Sainsbury’s in Beckton took their managers on in a football match to raise money for youngsters with cancer.

Customers of the supermarket in Claps Gate Lane also turned out to support the players in a five-a-side football match for the store’s charity of the year Youth Cancer Trust.

Joined by representatives from the charity, the Managers Vs Colleagues match on Tuesday August 21 at the Beckton Power League raised £270 in two hours, resulting in a 10-8 triumph for the colleagues.

Stuart Cavallaro, store manager, said: “It is amazing to see such a great turn out for an event we have organised for our charity.

“We really do believe Youth Cancer Trust is such a worthy cause and we’ll be hosting many more events such as this football match in the near future.

“Thank you to all the customers who came along and contributed.”

A spokesperson for YCT said: “It is great to see customers and colleagues supporting our charity and helping us raise awareness about the importance of it.

“It’s been a brilliant night and we cannot thank our Beckton colleagues enough for organising this night.”
