A children’s hospice is appealing for fun loving people to take part in its annual Penguin Dash and break a world record.

Richard House Children’s Hospice wants people to get behind the crazy, organised chaos of its annual Penguin Dash as they try to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as penguins.

The Guinness World Record team will be on hand on November 13 as supporters dressed as penguins meet before the two kilometre event.

The colony of penguins will gather at Wood Wharf in Canary Wharf to help raise money for the Beckton hospice, which supports families in London whose children and young adults are at risk of death from a life-limiting health condition.

The supporters are hoping to set a new record, with 250 people dressed as penguins needed to earn them a place in the famous book. TV star and Richard House patron Tommy Walsh, star of Ground Force and Flip That House, will then start the two kilometre course, which competitors can run, jog, walk or waddle.

Fellow children’s hospice Hope House holds the title of the largest number of snowmen in one place, but the attempt in November will be the first time a similar record has been attempted with penguins. This will be the fifth festive ‘dash’ that Richard House has held, but the first time it has set its sights on a world record.
