A giant mascot from a Newham hospice dined under the stars at London’s Rainforest Cafe as part of its Rainbow of Nations season.

The event is helping to raise awareness of Richard House Children’s Hospice across the various communities it serves, as well as celebrating the diverse nature of the capital. Each week focuses on a different continent with the hospices mascot, Harry the Head, heading out to an iconic London location.

This week was the turn of South America as Harry the Head ventured into the jungle on a tropical trip to the West End’s Rainforest Cafe. After exploring the jungle floor, Harry settled down for dinner under the stars.

Nikola Rogic, the cafe’s Assistant General Manager, said: “We were thrilled that Harry the Head came to explore London’s very own jungle for South America week.

“Our inhouse rainforest expert, Tracey the Talking Tree, was more than happy to teach Harry about South America’s vast rainforest ecosystem, whilst the jungle animals were slightly perplexed by Harry!”

Niall Couper, director of communications at Richard House, in Beckton, said: “Richard House Children’s Hospice already deals with a wide range of cultures and we are very keen to reach out to London’s diverse communities.

“Hopefully our Rainbow of Nations season will help, particularly at a time when the capital will be experiencing an influx of visitors from all across the globe.”

The season is part of the hospice’s Harry’s Million campaign, which aims to raise 1m to help pay for nurses and play and care workers. The campaign was inspired by former Richard House young adult Harry Singh, who now works part-time in the fundraising team at the hospice.
