Barts Health NHS Trust, the largest in the health service, is in the middle of a major recruitment drive to attract new nurses.

The Trust is looking for Band 5 nurses, with the vacancies listed on the health services jobs website: jobs.nhs.uk

Martin Baghurst, general manager in Emergency Care and Acute Medicine, is leading the recruitment drive. He said: “We are actively recruiting at the moment with shortlisted applicants being fast-tracked through to interview and a tour of our hospitals as soon as we can.

“I would encourage any nurses interested in the exciting opportunities on offer at Barts Health NHS Trust to apply online* to ensure they don’t miss out.”

Recruitment days will be held this month and early May and candidates will have the opportunity to visit The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel for their interview and get a glimpse of what it would be like to work in one of the Trust’s six hospitals including Newham General in Plaistow.

The events are part of the Trust’s recruitment drive to reach its target of employing 95 per cent permanent staff. It is expected the move will save the Trust significant money by reducing agency and bank staff costs.

Previous recruitment days held in January and February 2014 saw more than 30 people gain employment in the Emergency Care and Acute Medicine teams across the Trust.

Hannah Creasey, 35, who was among them will start work as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department at The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel this month. She joins the Trust after taking a year out during which she pursued her hobby as a private pilot, wrote a book and worked as a nurse at festivals, concerts and sporting events throughout the UK.

Hannah said: “During the open day we had the opportunity to tour The Royal London Hospital with nursing staff who were very patient in answering all our questions. This was particularly beneficial as it gave me a feel for the hospital and confirmed that it was definitely where I wanted to work. The recruitment team who supported us on the day were warm and friendly and looked after us with the greatest care.”
