Reports of “barrels” on the line caused delays to trains through Ilford this morning.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “At about 9.30am, reports were made by a driver of plastic barrels in the line. They have been removed now.”

He added it happened in the Ilford area but couldn’t specify where.

Greater Anglia tweeted at about 10.20am: “Delays of up to 20 mins through Ilford towards London to mainline (fast trains) due to reports of barrels having blown on to the track.”
