HOUSEBUILDER Barratt has been awarded a coveted Building for Life Standard for St. Andrews, a development on the former much-loved hospital with the same name, on the Stratford and Bromley-by-Bow border.

Twenty criteria measuring quality, including design and construction had to be met in the scheme operated by the Government Advisory Body CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.

The judges commented that St. Andrews “benefited from strong community involvement at an early stage, including consultation on the location of the scheme’s main park.”

It was also thought that the residential-led development “feels it would be a good place to live, with a strong sense of place.”

Alastair Baird, Regional Managing Director of Barratt London, said: “We are delighted that CABE have recognised St. Andrews. We have worked with the local community throughout the planning and construction and our strong partnership with the community is reflected in the quality of the development.”
