Charities, schools and social enterprises in Newham can now apply for grants from a new £25,000 community fund.
Silvertown sugar refiners Tate & Lyle Sugars announced the scheme, co-run with Newham Council, at the opening of their Plaistow Wharf factory’s latest production line last month.
The fund will support projects that help to create local communities “that are safe, prosperous and healthy,” the company says.
Grants of up to £2,500 are available and will be paid before the end of the year.
The company, now owned by American Sugar Refining Inc, has produced sugar and syrup in the borough for nearly 140 years.
In July, Lyle’s Golden Syrup signed a joint £4m deal with German baking product maker Dr Oetker to sponsor The Great British Bake Off.
Applications close on November 3.
