Staff from London City Airport and CityJet got on their bikes to ride from London to Rotterdam to support a children’s hospice.
The group was made up 34 staff from the airport, including its CEO Declan Collier, and two from CityJet. They set off from Richard House Children’s Hospice in Beckton on the initial leg to Harwich, catching their breath on the ferry before getting back on the saddle for the final leg to Rotterdam.
Many of the group cycled to Amsterdam this time last year in support of the charity, and they hope to raise as much as the impressive £25,000 raised in that ride. They were also accompanied by East Ham MP Stephen Timms.
Declan Collier, CEO of London City Airport said: “It’s great to see so many airport employees giving up their time for such a good cause. I’m sure it will be a tough challenge but also a lot of fun. I look forward to crossing the finish line having raised as much money as possible for Richard House.”
Hannah Bosley, a fundraiser at Richard House, is also taking part. She said: “It should be a great fundraising challenge. We are really proud and fortunate to have the support of London City Airport and City Jet. They money raised will make a huge difference to the families we support so we are very grateful to everyone taking part.”
London City Airport has supported the hospice since it opened in 2000, raising more than half a million pound. `
