The one-time Millwall Premier League Kicks player discusses his ambition for next season and what promotion would mean to him
Josh Koroma admitted it would be a dream come true to help Leyton Orient win promotion next season assuming he is still at the club.
The 19-year-old’s contract expires on June 30, but the O’s have the option to extend it by a further year and all the signs point towards them doing so, especially given Justin Edinburgh’s comments on Tuesday night.
If that is the case, Koroma will be hoping to play a big part in Orient’s efforts to return to the Football League next season.
Edinburgh has put solid foundations in place since he took over on November 29 and it all points towards a successful 2018/19 campaign for the E10 outfit.
“My goal right now is to get the club back up and it would be a dream come true because I have been here since I was 15,” said academy graduate Koroma.
“I’ve had four years at Leyton Orient and I would like to end this season on a high because last year was very disappointing going down from League Two.
“At the start of this campaign the whole team wasn’t play well enough, but we have been better recently and we want to end on a high and hopefully we can carry that into next season, keep pushing and go up.”
Orient are set to finish their maiden term in the National League away to Gateshead on Saturday and it is a 12.30pm kick-off, like the rest of the fixtures on the afternoon, because it is the last game of the season.
Last weekend, the O’s defeated play-off chasers Wrexham 1-0 at Brisbane Road with an excellent display after a frustrating loss by the same scoreline at Hartlepool United last Tuesday (April 17).
Macauley Bonne scored the only goal on Saturday, but Orient couldn’t build on it on Tuesday at home to Maidenhead United as they lost 1-0 in their final home game of the campaign.
Although Edinburgh’s team don’t have much to play for now in terms of the play-offs or relegation, they will hope next season they are right in the mix for the title.
More work is required over the summer, and that includes working on the signing of Norwich City loanee Ebou Adams, but for the first time in a long while Orient appear to be a step ahead of their rivals when it comes to planning
Koroma added: “If I am here next season we want to have a big promotion push and not just to go up through the play-offs.
“We want to do it automatically and win the league. I would love to be a part of that. It would be great.”
