PERFORMING in front of the pope has been described as a great honour by a group of Roma musicians from Newham.
Romani Rad, a group of Roma refugee musicians and dancers managed by Newham’s Roma Support Group, were invited to take park on the Hyde Park vigil on Saturday during Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to London.
“For us Roma being here is a great honour”, said group member Anna Krawczyk who performed in front of the 80,000-strong crowd.
“We came to share our culture with everyone present, representing not only Roma from Eastern Europe but also all Gypsy, Roma, Traveller communities in the UK.”
