Two people have been arrested after a one-year-old girl died when coming into contact with chemicals in Upton Park.
Firefighters were called to Barking Road when two adults and two children went to hospital following the smell Tuesday (October 28) at around 1.18pm.
It was reported yesterday that one of the children died in hospital whilst receiving treatment.
It has since been revealed that the child was a one-year-old girl.
A 41-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman remain in police custody after they were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter today (October 29).
According to the Metropolitan Police, the pair are not known to the victim.
The other child, aged six, along with two adults were also treated, with their injuries confirmed to be not life-threatening or life-changing.
The girl’s next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.
Around 12 people were evacuated from surrounding properties as a precaution following the incident.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident continues.
It is understood that the force believes the incident is not terrorism related.
