Work is under way on a development that will provide a new entrance for Stratford station.

Planning approval was granted for the 41-storey tower in Great Eastern Road last August, and the developer has confirmed that work has now begun on site.

The tower will provide new Unite student flats and offices, as well as another entrance to Stratford Tube station.

The main entrance to the station used to be on the site – and the area still retains an emergency exit for the station to this day.

According to a construction timeline submitted by the developer, work on the new entrance concourse will begin in early 2027 and last for around five months.

The development is expected to be finished by the end of the following year.

In total, almost 1,000 student rooms will be built as part of the scheme.

The developer says that it will build a “landmark building”, providing improved local connectivity via the new station entrance.

Last year, a £9.5 million new entrance at Stratford opened, allowing people from the Carpenters Estate direct access to the station for the first time.

Stratford station is currently the seventh busiest Transport for London station, seeing more than 50 million passenger entries and exits annually.
