The Railway Tavern in Angel Lane, Stratford confirmed it closed last Tuesday (May 6) for a refurbishment in a public Facebook post.
They said: "We hope to see you for a farewell drink before we go.
"It's been a joy to serve you all over the years.
"We will keep you all posted on plans for reopening."
In June 2020, a planning application was submitted by John Hallahan of Stratford Hall Limited for a 412 room hotel to be built on the site.
This would include the "retention and exterior refurbishment of the main part of the Railway Tavern Hotel building" and was approved in 2022.
It has not been confirmed whether the current closure is for this refurbishment plan to take place.
The Railway Tavern as well as the applicant and agent of the planning application have been contacted for comment.
