Pupils at a school in Plaistow are campaigning to stop their peers from vaping.
Learners at Cumberland Community School are fed up with classmates vaping in the toilets and outside the school gate.
They have convinced their headteacher to hold a vape amnesty where students can hand in their devices.
The campaign is run by student council pupils Dalia Salem, 12, from Canning Town, Zhema Umer, 13 from Plaistow, Maryam Layeni, 13 from Slade Green, and Leila Jabari, 13, from Beckton.
They have also petitioned to have vape detectors installed in the school bathrooms with alarms that alert teachers.
Dalia said: "Every day you see a student vaping in the toilet, after school, basically any place where there isn’t a teacher you will find vaping.
"I really don’t think students are aware of the damage they could potentially be doing to their health.
"They see others doing it and think it’s cool but actually it’s addictive and could cause problems when you are older."
The campaign has featured in the school newsletters and they have also led assemblies and created posters outlining the health dangers of vaping.
Almost one million 11 to 17-year-olds have vaped in 2024, according to data from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).
Zhema said: "We are hoping that when other schools see what we are doing they will start campaigns at their schools.
"Vaping is a big issue at schools."
Headteacher Ehklas Rahman added: "The students have taken up this campaign on their own, they came to us because they saw this as a real issue."
