A blaze on a busy high street has damaged a building and forced people to evacuate as 25 firefighters rushed to the scene.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) urgently dispatched its crews to a property on High Street North in Manor Park, Newham, after it was called at 2.13pm on Sunday (April 7).

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters tackled the blaze in part of a first-floor annex at the back of a three-storey building.

The fire damaged a portion of the mixed-use property and two people evacuated before LFB had arrived.

There were no reports of any injuries after crews from East Ham, Plaistow and Barking fire stations attended the scene.

"The fire is being treated as accidental, " LFB said.

"[It] is believed to have been caused by hot works taking place on a flat roof," LFB added.
