A man has been taken to a major trauma centre after an early-hours crash in Stratford town centre.

The incident happened this morning (November 17) on the junction of Broadway and Tramway Avenue.

In a video posted by social media users, a man can be seen laying on the pavement outside the Old Town Hall, surrounded by bystanders trying to help him.

A spokesperson for Met Police said: “Police were called at about 03:15hrs on Thursday, 17 November to a man injured near the junction of Broadway and Tramway Avenue, E15.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. The man, believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening.

“After reviewing CCTV footage form the surrounding area officers are confident the man was riding a bike and collided with street furniture which resulted in his injuries.

“There is no suggestion any other vehicles were involved in this collision.”

Crews from the London Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene, including the London Air Ambulance by car.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “Our first medic arrived on scene in less than five minutes.

“We treated a man at the scene for a leg injury and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
