A man is in a critical condition after a double stabbing in East Ham last night.

Metropolitan Police were called at 9.06pm on Wednesday (August 16) to High Street near the junction with Ruskin Avenue.

They found two men, both in their early 30s, at the scene with stab wounds.

London Ambulance Service attended, and they took the two men to a hospital.

A spokesperson from Met Police has confirmed that one of the victims is fighting for his life. Another man’s injuries are said to be not life changing or threatening.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers have arrested a 24-year-old man at an address in Newham on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He currently remains in police custody.

Road closures are in place with High Street partially blocked both ways between Coleridge Avenue and Goldsmith Avenue. A detour is in operation for bus routes 101, 304 and 474.

Images and video clips shared on social media show a police cordon at the location.
