Former Canning Town resident and devoted West Ham supporter Terry Stevens tragically passed away in a road accident on Valentines Day.
Former Canning Town resident and devoted West Ham supporter Terry Stevens died in a road accident.
Terry, 58, died in an accident with a lorry as he tried to cross Haven Bridge, Great Yarmouth. Paramedics were unable to save him.
Terry, who had West Ham United’s crest tattooed on his arm, was born and bred in Canning Town and he lived in Ruscoe Road before he moved to Great Yarmouth in 2005.
He worked for pub landlady Jean Avis, who also moved to Great Yarmouth from Newham, and he was known locally as “Cockney Terry”.
Jean, 66, said: “He came with us to help with the pub – he was like a caretaker.
“He was happy – he loved it up here. He played pool and darts and liked watching the football. He used to wind the women up – he was a bit of a joker.”
A service was held at East London Cemetery on Thursday and a wake was held at the Black Lion pub, Plaistow.
