A giant mascot from Richard House Children’s Hospice experienced life Down Under recently as part of the hospice’s Rainbow of Nations series.
It aims to raise awareness of the hospice across the various communities it serves as well as celebrating the diverse nature of the capital.
Each week Richard House is focussing on a different continent. So far the mascot, called Harry the Head, has learnt about Chinese cooking in China Town, Ancient Greek athletes on the British Museum’s Olympic trail and tasted exotic cuisine surrounded by 20ft African statues at Shaka Zulu in Camden.
It is named after Harry Singh, a Richard House young adult who has inspired a fundraising campaign in his name.
The week was the turn of Australasia and Harry began his day with a visit to the New Zealand Embassy. Afterwards Harry took some time to relax in the well-known Australian sport lovers hang out and bar, Walkabout, where he tried his hand at pulling pints.
Dal Jones, general manager at the Covent Garden Walkabout, said: “It was great that Harry the Head came to hang around with us Australians for the afternoon, although he did give us some banter about the cricket!”
The season is part of the hospice’s Harry’s Million campaign, which aims to raise 1m to help pay for nurses and play and care workers.
