A hotel employee beat his manager in a fitness challenge that revealed he walks nearly 60,000 steps a week at work.
Four staff from four different departments at Holiday Inn Stratford City wore pedometers to work from April 8 to 12 to count how many steps a day they take during working hours over five days.
Facilities manager Jakub Wawrzyniak was awared the winners trophy after he recorded 59,081 steps - the same as number required to climb the Shard 120 times and Big Ben 176 times.
Jakub’s manager Ben Swindells finished last with almost half the number of steps - 30,826.
Ben said: “I now know why I have to go to the gym to keep fit and Jakub and Prolet don’t.
“We took a total of 178,188 steps between us.
“That’s the equivalent of travelling up and down Covent Garden tube stations steps an average of 932 times.”
Prolet Gale, executive housekeeper, was the runner up with 51,642 steps followed by Richard Bartfield, conference and events manager, with 36,639 steps.
The challenge marked the first birthday of the hotel.
