Residents were urged to bring along their instruments and play on the square in front of the cafe Coffee7 on Sebert Road, off Woodgrange Road, on Sunday.

The event is organised by shop manager Jeff Levi, who runs the recently opened community shop, Number 8 Forest Gate, jamming sessions will now be held on the last Sunday of each month.

A smaller version of the market held on Fridays and Saturdays on the square will also be put on those Sundays to coincide with the event.

It comes as the former Railway Tavern pub, being renamed Forest Tavern, opposite Forest Gate station is set to open in a few weeks time, according to market traders.

The pub, which is undergoing a complete renovation inside, was recently bought up by the trendy pub company Antic London. It will be close to Kaffeine, another smart cafe which opened at the beginning of the year.
