East London’s budding women photographers will showcase their shots of local people in an exhibition as part of a legacy project.
Run by Canning Town charity Community Links, 12 of the women have started a learning journey for 10 weeks called the PhotoSpeak scheme.
The amateur snappers are being tutored by Jacqueline McCullough, a Brighton-based professional, who is teaching them how to use digital cameras and set up their own community groups and events.
The exhibition will be held at the end of the course at Chandos East Community Hub in Stratford and the project is being sponsored by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), alongside Taylor Wimpey and L&Q who have been selected to construct the Chobham Manor, a new Olympic Park neighbourhood.
Trina Geasley, centre manager at Chandos East Hub, said: “PhotoSpeak is a fantastic project because alongside the creative aspect of photography, the women, who are from all walks of life and ages, will be learning new skills and getting to know new people.
“Community Links is incredibly grateful to the Legacy Corporation, Taylor Wimpey, and L&Q for funding the project, which means we have been able to offer the course to people completely free of charge.”
