The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will be in Stratford next month talking about poverty in a conference.
The Archbishop will be the keynote speaker at the Church Urban Fund conference, ‘Tackling Poverty Together’, on November 13 to be held at the Old Town Hall
Tim Bissett, the Church Urban Fund’s chief executive, said: “This conference will inspire and equip Christians and churches who are working with the poorest people to transform lives and communities.
“We want to celebrate and showcase what the church is doing to tackle poverty, and explore how we can respond effectively and appropriately to the needs around us.”
The Archdeacon of West Ham, Ven Elwin Cockett said: “I am really pleased to be welcoming delegates to the Church Urban Fund’s ‘Tackling Poverty Together’ conference in Stratford in the heart of east London.
“Newham is one of the most economically-deprived boroughs in the country, and the Church of England is very active in working with many local charities and groups in addressing deprivation and need here.
“Our twenty-four local churches, right across the borough, have a long history of fighting poverty, offering a range of initiatives from food banks to debt advice, and serving people of every community.”
Tickets are £10 and will include lunch and refreshments. To book go online at www.tacklingpovertytogether.eventbrite.com
