The architects behind East Village have won a Civic Trust Award.
Fletcher Priest Architects were recognised for the Stratford site’s evolution from 73 hectares of former railway to the athletes’ village during London 2012 and, most recently, residential homes which form a new urban community.
The award is the site’s latest accolade as it was recently awarded the Mayor of London’s Award for Planning Excellence.
The original masterplan for the site was the largest planning application ever submitted in the capital and had the objective of creating connections between the existing town centre and onward to Lea Valley Park.
Other goals included creating a project that would be absorbed into the environment and encouraging social integration and connectivity within East London.
Jonathan Kendall, partner at Fletcher Priest Architects, said: “We worked with the Olympic Delivery Authority, Lend Lease and Triathlon, as well as multiple architectural teams to deliver the project, and are delighted at its success.”
The Civic Trust Awards scheme was established in 1959 to recognise the very best in architecture, design, planning, landscape and public art.
