Squatters have been evicted from a former gym which is rumoured to be the place where Arnold Schwarzenegger used to train.
The double-fronted house in Romford Road is known locally as Arnie’s Gym as it is believed that the couple living there discovered the action superstar and he would work out in their ground floor facility when he was in London.
Police officers, London Fire Brigade and members from Newham Council’s anti-social behaviour unit, planning department and outreach workers removed squatters and secured the premises last month.
The gym closed for business a long time ago and the upper half of the house was originally rented as a residential property, although it is no longer habitable since a fire last year.
The building first came to police attention in 2010 and squatters have been evicted on several occasions in the past but criminals continued to use the house as a bail address and anti-social behaviour has been reported.
A spokesman for Newham Police said the force was “committed to formulating long term solutions to the issues that can affect the quality of life for local residents”.
