A driver clocked driving at 76mph in a 40mph speed limit could be prosecuted.
The 20-year-old man was caught speeding along Royal Albert Way by Newham Council’s Enforcement Partnership as part of a crack down on Fast and Furious-style car meets in Beckton.
Support from a nearby police helictoper tracked the VW Golf, with officers on the ground informed when the driver, from Croydon, stopped in Freemasons Road just after midnight on September 28.
This follows on from an operation two weeks ago which saw two cars seized for being driven without insurance and another nine drivers being issued with warning notices for acting irresponsibly.
Councillor Unmesh Desai, cabinet member for crime and anti-social behaviour, said: “This is another example of the hard attitude Newham Council has against the minority of car enthusasts who act irresponsibly when attending these gatherings and make the lives of our residents’ a misery by speeding, revving their engines and performing donuts in various car parks and industrial estates.
“We will not tolerate reckless driving and we will continue to provide policing reinforcement around these events until we see an end to the anti-social behaviour associated with them.”
