Market stalls moved over to make way for fitness equipment at Queen’s Market, providing plenty of half term holiday fun.
The Green Street venue offered youngsters the chance to try out sports such as BMX cycling, rowing and non-contact boxing for free on Wednesday afternoon.
There was also the opportunity to show off football skills in a penalty shoot out competition.
Organised by the council’s Green Street Community Neighbourhood team, it was run in partnership with a number of organisations including the Queen’s Market management team, London Youth Rowing and West Ham United Foundation.
Representatives from the Metropolitan Police were also on hand to service and mark bikes and provide crime prevention advice.
Councillor Ken Clark, cabinet member for building communities, public affairs, regeneration and planning, said: “The whole ethos of our community neighbourhood teams is to bring local people together through a wide range of activities.
“The market games at the Queen’s Market was a fantastic success with around 180 people enjoying the event.
“It was a prime example of the wide range of initiatives the council and its partners are providing to further develop a community spirit across the borough.”
All of the participants were entered into a free prize draw, with Tesco providing a wireless portable speaker and a football goal for the lucky winners.
