Whether you’re a regular swimmer at the Olympic pool or just an occasional visitor, you may have noticed that one of the windows of the London Aquatics Centre is now covered up.

When it opened to the public for the first time in March 2014, the centre offered glorious views of the ArcelorMittal Orbit and former Olympic stadium on its riverfront side.

However, seemingly with the advent of the FINA/NVC World Diving Championships, all that suddenly changed and an opaque blue film eclipsed the entire window that remains in place at the time of writing.

According to a spokesman for the London Legacy Development Corporation, which runs the park (though not the day to day management of the centre, which is left to social enterprise GLL under their Better brand name) the film is “temporary”.

While he did not give any indication as tho whether it would be coming down any time soon, he did explain its reasons for being there in the first place which were principally to control the lighting in the centre.

He said: “The temporary blue film allows us to have greater control of the light in the London Aquatics Centre, improving conditions, particularly for TV coverage of international diving and swimming events, but also for divers and spectators.”

It is unclear if another solution will be found, but for now swimmers are reduced to having just the one window to look out of with views towards Westfield and Stratford station.
