Tributes have been paid to a long-standing supporter of the Monega Residents’ Association, whose funeral was held in her native Spain last week.

Yolanda Harry, who lived in Katherine Road, passed away in September aged 76.

She moved to the UK as a young woman to learn dressmaking and worked on royal commissions.

It was during this time that she met and married her husband, who was to become vice-chairman of the association.

After his death 17 years ago she continued to support the association as much as possible.

Current chairman Bob Rush said: “Yolanda was a very special person. She would walk out visiting scores of people extending friendship with small gifts and goodwill.

“We knew she would be at every meeting and come on every trip.

“What I remember particularly is how courteous she was. It is a very deep loss.”

Mrs Harry’s body was flown back to Spain ahead of her funeral the village of Balocos, on the north west coast.

Mr Rush added: “When we knew there was to be no means of expressing grief in the traditional way Association members received permission from the family to have inscribed on her headstone ‘Loved and much missed by her friends in the Monega Association, London’, so this will be our neighbourhood’s thoughts resting appropriately with her, forever.”
