Five art students have developed their skills with a workshop at the National Gallery.
Katie Anderson, Jadine Rice, Fatima Khan, Ellen Dorrington and Samirah Shaikh, who are all studying at NewVIc, took part in the Articulation Discovery day.
The event, designed to develop critical awareness and presentation skills, centred around two works of art produced almost 700 years apart.
The students listened to talks from the gallery’s curator of pre-1500 Italian Renaissance paintings, Caroline Campbell, and took part in an art criticism workshop with artist Katie Aggett.
They were also able to view the archives and work with students from other colleges to produce their own critical responses.
Fatima said: “I found it really useful as the artwork we were studying related to the theme I’m focusing on in my art classes, which is architecture.
“I learnt a lot from it, being able to study art in more depth and from a different view.”
The college’s art and design teacher, Vikki Hill, added: “I was really impressed with our students, it was an amazing performance.
“Their confidence, creativity and presentation skills were excellent.”
The Articulation initiative is organised by the Roche Court Educational Trust and is designed to stimulate interest and understanding of art in 14 to 19-year-olds.
