Pupils across Newham became stars of the stage as schools across the borough put on Nativity and Christmas concerts before closing for the holidays.
It was gold stars all round for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils from Cleves Primary School on Arragon Road when they took to the stage to perform in their nativity play.
Nearly 400 parents saw two performances of the concert which was the chance for the children to showcase their skills and hard work.
Deputy head teacher, Jim McLucas said: “Quite often we heard children singing songs to each other in the corridors and playground without prompting from the teachers.”
Pupils from Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 at Scott Wilkie School on Baxter Road were too shining stars of the stage in their concert. School business manager, Hannah Cleland said: “The children loved rehearsing for and performing the shows, their singing, dancing and acting skills have grown alongside their confidence and the excitement on the day was contagious.”
Performances by children from Kensington Primary School, Kensington Avenue, were a spectacle of costume and colour. Head teacher Ben Levison said: “Our teachers worked unbelievably hard to achieve this. Teachers have worked with the children to make costumes, design sets, produce props, teach acting and singing skills and encourage the children’s confidence and self-belief.”
At Kaizen Primary School in Elkington Road, the hard work of Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 paid off as the audience were rewarded with an amazing show that went off without a hitch.
Kelly Hall, lead teacher in early education said: “Every child had a part to play whether it was acting, singing or dancing. Children even stayed behind after school to make props for our show.”
