The London Assembly has called for the Olympic Stadium rental agreement to be published in full.

A partially redacted version of the contract between the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and West Ham United was published following a Freedom of Information request in August.

But Wednesday’s motion, which was unanimously agreed by assembly members, noted the “considerable public interest” in making the full document available to the public.

The motion calls on the LLDC to drop its appeal against the information commissioner’s ruling that the document should be published in full and to release an unredacted version of the document.

Jenny Jones AM, who proposed the motion said: “Londoners want the whole truth about the stadium deal and an end to the secrecy.

“It’s time the London Legacy Development Corporation let the public see the full details of this multimillion pound deal.”

Caroline Pidgeon AM, who seconded the motion, added: “West Ham United Football Club knew full well that it would be subject to the Freedom of Information Act when it entered into an agreement with LLDC.

“No mayoral body should be hiding a deal over the use of a largely taxpayer-funded stadium.”

“The full publication of this information will allow the public to find out if value for money has been reached for taxpayers.”

The LLDC is a public authority, funded by government grants and contracts, which ultimately means the taxpayer will be paying for a number of facilities and services to be used by the Hammers.

The club is moving into the stadium as the anchor tenant next summer, although other events, including athletics, will take place there throughout the year.
