Green-fingered staff and volunteers are set to plant 1,250 new shrubs in West Ham Park.
The park is also set to get 38 new trees after receiving a £15,000 grant from the Mayor of London’s greener city community fund earlier this year.
The new additions are part of national tree week which runs from Saturday, November 24 until Sunday, December 2, and marks the start of the winter tree planting season.
Graeme Smith, chair of the City of London Corporation’s West Ham Park committee, said: “These new trees will enhance the park’s woodland habitat for wildlife and improve the biodiversity of the site.
“It’s wonderful to see our staff, the local community and volunteers working towards a greener landscape.”
The corporation, which has owned the park since 1874, is also using national tree week to encourage visitors to explore its tree trail and find out more about some of the unusual plants.
