A team of students from Barking and Dagenham College have won themselves £2,500 after creating an app to help people develop their careers.

This IT-savvy team impressed the judges at the International CareerHack competition so much, an additional runner up prize was introduced for the students.

Gausika Kanagaratnam, 21, Andre Gayle, 19, and Dean Richards, 21, who are all studying for an HND in Computing at the college, won the prize with their app ‘Know Your Future’, which aims to provide the user with the tools they need to find their perfect career.

The judging panel, made up of industry experts, from Google, Ubuntu and HP, said they were looking for innovative entries that would make an impact on society.

Also studying Computing at the college, Ellen Kerr, 35, acted as the team’s mentor and commented on their success saying: “The project was very hard and we had many sleepless nights over it but the team loved doing it.”
