Householders are being given the chance to clear out their sheds when a successful scheme looking to collect unwanted paint returns to Barking this month.

The Kick Out The Can initiative will allow people to clear out their cupboards and garages and take their surplus paint to their local Crown Decorating Centre, on Alfreds Way Industrial Estate, for recycling.

From April 18 to May 6, customers who donate will receive a 20 per cent discount voucher to use until July 31 of this year.

Regeneration charity, Groundwork, will donate the paint collected in-store to community projects after it is re-processed by social enterprise company Nimtech.

People will be able to return up to 10 containers on any single visit but the paint must be in its original container with the lid securely attached and no foreign objects inside.

Leftover metal paint containers and plastic will also be recycled but householders must note rusty cans will not be accepted.

Sustainability manager for Crown Decorating Centres Mark Lloyd said: “Last year, Kick Out The Can was a huge success.

“Householders showed us that they valued the opportunity to clear out surplus paint while also making a positive contribution to communities accross the country.”
