A language school which aims to encourage the integration of ethnic minorities has been officially opened in Dagenham.

Leaping Toads, based in the grounds of Eastbrook Comprehensive School, offers Lithuanian children the opportunity to increase their language skills in both their mother tongue and in English.

Special guests at the offical opening included the ambassador of Lithuania, Asta Skaisgiryt? Liauškiene, and Darren Rodwell, the leader of Barking and Dagenham Council.

Performances and a range of workshops were held and Cllr Rodwell even took part in some of the children’s games,

Simona Staputiene, Principal of Leaping Toads, said: “Each day we create new and exciting experiences for children to develop their skills which they can use in every aspect of their lives.”

The school now plans to expand teaching of English and mother-tongue languages to Baltic and other eastern European communities.
