Becontree Heath Leisure Centre, where Olympic athletes trained up for the 2012 games, is home to the UK’s busiest pool, according to a new report.
The Dagenham centre saw 410,740 swims between 2013 and 2014, according to the Amateur Swimming Association’s “annual aquatics throughput”. The pool also hosted 4,357 learner swimmers each week.
The new Abbey Leisure Centre, currently being built in Barking, is due to open later this year.
Council leader Cllr Darren Rodwell said: “It’s great to hear Becontree Heath Leisure Centre is being so well used by the community.
“This facility is of such a high standard it was used as a London 2012 Games training venue and is clearly a hit with residents.”
The old Dagenham Pool saw about 180,000 swims each year, the council said.
