The £600 grant is being used to fund a learning difficulty and disability calendar project which will depict different disabilities the students face. College students will be responsible for every stage of producing the calendars, from designing to selling in a bid to provide life and business skills.

Lis Honeysett, from Barking and Dagenham College, said: “We were delighted to be given this grant. It means that the calendar can become an annual project for students.

“It’s given students not only the opportunity to gain new skills but help dispel some of the myths about the disabilities they cope with.”

“We awarded grants to projects that would have a wider impact, not just for the College, but also to make a real difference for students,” Chris Brill explained, part of the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) whose assessment led to the successful application of the fund.

The Barking and Dagenham College calendar is on sale at the College, The Maples and the Relish Café in Dagenham and costs £7.
