Two Game stores in Newham have closed resulting in 18 job losses following the retailer’s collapse last night.
The video game company have shut outlets in the Stratford Centre, at 54A the Broadway, and Gallions Reach, at 3 Armada Way, Beckton, making nine staff redundant at each premises.
But the Game store at Westfield Stratford City remains open with trading overseen by administrators PriceWaterhouseCoopers who promise to “place the company in a stronger position.”
Game and Gamestation went into administration yesterday following a reported 21 million rent bill, due on Sunday, 40 million owed to supplliers, and a 12 million wage bill although PriceWaterhouseCoopers are expected to honour any wages.
Game closed 277 stores last night, making 2,104 people redundant, but the administrators will continue to trade at 333 stores, and employ 2,814 staff, while they attempt to find a buyer.
