Staying in Stratford is set to become stylish after a £126m hotel was given the green light.

Planning permission has been granted for the 249-bed Penny Brook Hotel, which will be built in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s East Village.

The 25-storey tower has been designed to optimise the amount of sunlight entering the guest rooms, and boasts restaurants and cafes on the ground floor.

Conference facilities and event space will be created on the second floor, with an exclusive bar with views across the park available to guests and members on the top floors.

It is described by Eric Jafari, managing director of developers Union Hannover Securities, as “seeking to appeal to Millennials who embrace the ‘anti-brand’ experience.”

The development also includes an adjacent aparthotel, the 137-bed Adagio, which will have 95 studios and 42 one-bedroom suites.

It will be built by New York-based architects Grzywinski+Pons in partnership with engineers Manhire Associates.

The firm’s Matthew Gryzwinski said: “After a very positive and productive process working with the London Legacy Development Corporation, it was especially gratifying that the committee understood our deep level of commitment to further catalyse the development of a world class neighbourhood through our architecture.

“We now look forward to ensuring the property is delivered as we envisioned.”

Work on the site is set to begin in the early autumn.
