Stratford’s new bridge connecting E15 to E2O is up for an international award for structural design.
Formally known as the Stratford Town Centre Link, the structure forms the gateway to Westfield Stratford City and the Olympic Park.
It is now also a nominee for the 2012 Structural Awards, making it the second entry from Stratford alongside the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.
Built from a combination of weathering steel and glass, the enormous landmark crosses 11 live railway lines, a busy road junction, and Stratford Station - a first for the UK and an important transport infrastructure legacy of the Olympic Games.
Launched in 1968, the Structural Awards are in their 44th year celebrating global structural engineering feats which have proved to be everywhere in 2012 with nearly 100 projects submitted and close to 60 shortlisted in 11 categories.
Other entries on the shortlist include the Titanic Belfast, Adidas Laces in Germany, and Al Hamra Firdous Tower in Kuwait.
John Nolan, Structural Awards’ judge and Institution president, said: “The calibre of entries for the Structural Awards 2012 was outstanding, and it was an enormous privilege to be part of the judging panel.
“There were more entries this year than ever before and with such high quality across the board, selecting the shortlisted projects was extremely tough.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 2 at the Marriott Grosvenor Square in central London and tickets are available from www.structuralawards.org.
