THE Olympic Park at Stratford today (Monday) had a very special visitor in the shape of David Beckham, making his first visit to the Games site since the winning bid in 2005.

And his verdict after seeing the stadium and other venues: “I think it is incredible. The area I know so well is being transformed, the amazing dream is becoming a reality and I have seen first-hand how much hard work has gone into the project. This is great for the East End and for sport.”

The LA Galaxy and England player was shown around the site by Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee LOCOG.

Beckham played a high profile role in the successful bid to bring the Games to London as an ambassador, was part of the bidding delegation which travelled to Singapore and was also part of the London 2012 handover performance, which was part of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games closing ceremony.

Of the visit Sebastian Coe said, “David has been, and continues to be, an integral part of the London 2012 family...I was delighted to be able to show him around the site, which of course is in a part of London he knows well. His belief and support is well known and he was thrilled to see the progress being made.”
