Volunteers are needed to record the fascinating stories of Tate & Lyle’s “Sugar Girls” as part of a new heritage project.
The popular “Working Women of Newham: Sugar Girls” exhibition - created to co-incide with the bestselling book “The Sugar Girls” by Nuala Calvi and Duncan Barrett - has been touring Newham’s libraries for about a year.
Organisers Newham New Development Programme (NDP) is now planning to move on to a new phase over the next few months in which local volunteers will be trained up and help to record the memories of women who worked in the Silvertown factories between 1939 and 1999.
Women, families, and friends wishing to add their memories and photos to the project, and those wishing to volunteer, should email majeed@newhamndp.co.uk.
