Youngsters from several Newham schools will be enjoying movies at the Stratford Picture House after they were presented with family tickets as rewards.

The students from five schools in the borough were presented with 100 family tickets to be used as rewards and incentives for study and behaviour.

They were handed out by Newham Mayor, Sir Robin Wales, and the Young Mayor, Abraham Male before enjoying a screening of Men In Black in 3D.

Dominic Voyce, general manager of the Stratford Picture House, in Theatre Square, said: “We wanted to support schools from the local community as they have supported the cinema over many years, and engage young people and their families with the community and educational aspects of cinema-going. We are awarding the schools with the tickets as a way of thanking them for their continued support, to encourage family visits to the cinema and to promote awareness of film’s capacity as an educational tool.”

The schools were selected through Newham’s Children’s and Young Peoples Services. The tickets were presented as awards for good work but each school decided how it would award the tickets to the pupils and families.

Students from Ronald Openshaw Nursery School and Children’s Centre and Carpenter’s, St Francis, Maryland primary schools and St Angela’s Ursuline School received the tickets.
