Stratford Circus hosts valuable session for visual artists

One-on-one surgeries, short talks and group discussions will be on offer for potential artists at Stratford Circus on October 8.

The event, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, has been organised by the Newham Visual Artists Network (NVAN) in association with Birkbeck School of Arts.

Its called Work/Learn/Practice: Opportunities in the Visual Arts, and will give interested people a chance to explore the opportunities available to visual artists and related practitioners.

One-on-one surgeries, short talks and group discussions will be available in four zones:

Zone 1: The Art World Demystified

- one on one surgeries with arts professionals from the world of galleries, museums, community arts groups, arts organisations.

Zone 2: Self-Employment – What does it involve?

- a presentation by an expert, followed by Q&A.

Zone 3: Higher Education – Not just art school

- academics and current and former students from visual arts, museum cultures and arts management courses will be available to discuss the benefits of studying in these areas and existing courses and funding (with a focus on Birkbeck).

Zone 4: Connecting with commissions

- an expert on public art and the commissioning process will give a short presentation and be available to give advice.
