A group of talented young dancers will be coming together in Stratford for a set of powerful performances.

Newham based company, East London Dance, have invited a group of eight apprentice dancers from the world-leading Hofesh Shechter Company to perform three pieces this week.

The show, called deGeneration, will include work created by the highly acclaimed dancer, Hofesh Shechter, and will form part of the wider #HOFEST season - a four week festival in London presenting collaborative work between the city’s leading arts organisations and the dance company.

The promising eight performers are members of a new apprentice company made up of international dancers aged between 18 and 25 and is driven by Hofesh Shechter, and his Company’s commitment to creating opportunities in the arts scene.

The young dancers were picked from more than 1,000 people internationally that auditioned.

Polly Risbridger, Director of East London Dance, said: “We are delighted to be premiering Shechter Junior at Stratford Circus as part of a long term partnership with Hofesh Shechter Company.

“The partnership grew out of demand from the young people and artists we work with, and offers a whole range of masterclasses, residencies, performances and events in which our local talent can collaborate and exchange with Hofesh Shechter Company.

In 2014 East London Dance and Hofesh Shechter Company launched a partnership enabling both organisations to work together to develop strong artistic links with the communities of east London.

The show, which takes place on Thursday and Friday will include pieces from Hofesh Shechter’s creations over the past few years.

The evening will come to an end with the UK premiere of Disappearing Act - a new piece adapted from an earlier work by Shechter - that has been reworked.

Polly added: “I feel very proud to see the dance talent from east London being profiled and nurtured as part of this world-class young company and can’t wait to welcome them to Stratford.”
