East London town hall plays allow students to work in professional environment

PUBLISHED: 13:00 06 April 2014

As part of Shoreditch Town Hall’s programme of theatre and performance this year, original plays are being shown in April.

Dreaming America is from award-winning writer Terry Johnson, author of Hysteria and Dead Funny.

Running from April 8 to 17 the play covers the life of movie mogul, aviator, recluse and richest man in the world Howard Hughes.

Thirdly, from April 9 to 17 comes Stephen Jeffrey’s The Art of War, drawing inspiration from Sun Tzu’s classic text for this commentary on world events.

The plays are in collaboration with Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts enabling students to get first-hand experience in a professional environment.

Shoreditch Town Hall’s director Nick Giles said: “Being led by the quality and availability of artistic projects means we will never follow set seasons or patterns.

“We’ll only ever programme work as and when projects are right for us or come to fruition as part of a development process, which we hope offers our audiences thrilling and spontaneous work here at the town hall.”
